What is ASTM 662.

ASTM E662 is a standard test method that measures the smoke density generated by solid materials and assemblies when they are exposed to flame. It is used to evaluate the smoke-producing characteristics of these materials in order to ensure that they are safe to use in applications where the presence of smoke can pose a risk to human health and safety, such as in public transportation systems. The test involves exposing small samples of the material to a controlled flame in a closed chamber, and measuring the attenuation of light through the smoke generated. The data obtained from the test is used to calculate the specific optical density of the smoke, which is used as an indicator of the concentration of smoke produced. The test results are useful for determining the level of safety for various materials and to check compliance with codes and regulations related to public transportation.

A bus handle poem ……

In the underground train, rumbling through the dark, passengers cling tightly to the grab straps with stark

fears of being jostled by the sudden lurch, or losing their footing in the endless search

for balance on the swaying car.

But in these moments of uncertainty, the straps provide a anchor, a lifeline to reality, a source of reassurance for those who might otherwise panic.

And though the journey may be rough, the destination is worth it, for with the grab straps as our guide, we’ll make it through without a split.

So let us hold on tight, and let the straps lead the way, to a brighter tomorrow, on our subway ride today
